Bomspotting XL: These people know what they are doing, and why there are doing it!

An interview with two Portuguese activists, who were at the briefing in Gent this morning.

“My name is Joana and I am Portuguese. For the moment I am working in Amsterdam, but early July, I am going to do volonteer work for an organisation in Belgium. Namely “For Mother Earth”.

“My name is Diana, I am also Portuguese, and I arrived in Belgium 2 months ago. Since then, I have been a volunteer for “For Mother Earth”. In Portugal, I was involved in an environmental organisation, and that’s how I found out about the organisation in Belgium. I came here with a European exchange program, and will stay here for one year.”

“We think it is really impressing how well organised this Bombspotting event is. In Portugal we don’t have a similar action, since we don’t have any nuclear weapons in our country. But we also don’t have a lot of direct actions like Bombspotting.

This action is really well organised and structured, and reaches all kinds of people. The nice thing is also that people who participate in the action know what they are doing, and more importantly: they know what they are doing it for!”

“The group of international activists that gathered here, is very diverse. We’ve seen around 50 Finnish people, some 20 Swedish, a few Englishmen, Germans, and Portuguese of course. And even some Estonians! The people of the organisation gave us a very good briefing. Yesterday for example most of us attended a training “non-violent action”.

The majority of the international group is going to the Nato in Evere. Because of the international, European context.

We are planning to keep participating to these actions in the future. But it would be even better if this kind of actions wouldn’t be necessary anymore..”
