Onopgeloste vragen na 11-9-2001
1.
"The Aug. 7, 2001, Senior Executive Intelligence Brief didn't mention the 70 FBI (news - web sites) investigations into possible al-Qaida activity that the president had been told of a day earlier in a top-secret memo titled "Bin Laden Determined To Strike in U.S.," government officials told The Associated Press.
The senior executives' memo also did not mention a threat received in May 2001 of possible attacks with explosives in the United States or that the FBI had concerns about recent activities like the casing of buildings in New York, the officials said." Bron: AP/Yahoo
"When asked if he knew details of the threat or who might have made it, Ashcroft said, "Frankly, I don't. That's the answer."
The Justice Department did say that it wasn't Ashcroft who wanted to fly in leased airplanes, but that it was the idea of his FBI security detail. The FBI had no comment." Bron: Village Voice
"Former White House counterterrorism czar Richard Clarke tells Vanity Fair that the Bush administration decided to allow a group of Saudis to fly out of the U.S. just after September 11 at a time when access to U.S. airspace was still restricted and required special government approval. According to other sources, at least four flights with about 140 Saudis, including roughly two dozen members of the bin Laden family, flew to Saudi Arabia that week without even being interviewed or interrogated by the F.B.I." Bron guerrillanews
"The plane taking off from Tampa was the first of at least eight aircraft that began flying across the country, stopping in at least 12 American cities and carrying at least 140 passengers out of the country over the next week or so. The planes included a lavishly customized Boeing 727 airliner that was equipped with a master bedroom suite, huge flat-screen TVs, and a bathroom with gold-plated fixtures. Many of the passengers were high-ranking members of the royal House of Saud. About 24 of them were members of the bin Laden family, which owned the Saudi Binladin Group, a multibillion-dollar construction conglomerate."

"Soon after she came out publicly, Edmonds was fired. She subsequently told the commission that the FBI had information that an attack using airplanes was being planned before September 11."
"A second FBI whistle-blower case involves another former FBI translator, Behrooz Sarshar, who left the agency in 2002. He supposedly translated an interview between an Iranian source, once a member of the Shah's secret police, with two FBI agents in which the informant told the agents he had heard in Afghanistan of an Al Qaeda plot to attack the U.S. in a suicide mission with planes." Bron Village Voice
"Threat reports mentioned the possibility of using an aircraft laden with explosives. Of these the most prominent asserted a possible plot to fly an explosives-laden plane into a US city. This report was circulated in September 1998 and originated from a source who walked into an American consulate in East Asia." Others included reports of a plan to fly a plane into the Eiffel Tower in 1994, and of flying a plane into CIA headquarters. The report added: "A 1996 report asserted that Iranians were plotting to hijack a Japanese plane and crash it into Tel Aviv." Bron: Independent
"Five months before the September 11 attacks, US military planners suggested a war game to practise a response to a terrorist attack using a commercial airliner flown into the Pentagon, but senior officers rejected the scenario as "too unrealistic"." Bron Guardian

April 14 /U.S. Newswire/ -- House Judiciary Committee Chairman F. James Sensenbrenner, Jr. (R-Wis.) released the following statement:
"Yesterday, a 1995 memo written by 9/11 Commission Member Jamie Gorelick, in her former role as the second in command at the Justice Department, revealed her actions in establishing the heightened 'wall' prohibiting the sharing of intelligence information and criminal information. Scrutiny of this policy lies at the heart of the Commission's work. Ms. Gorelick has an inherent conflict of interest as the author of this memo and as a government official at the center of the events in questions..."
"Testifying before the Commission is Ms. Gorelick's proper role, not sitting as a member of this independent commission."

Boeing in Pentagon? by BeatTheMeat Saturday, Apr. 17, 2004 at 10:00 PM |

26 April 2004
"The Bush administration will today seek to prevent a former FBI translator from providing evidence about 11 September intelligence failures to a group of relatives and survivors who have accused international banks and officials of aiding al-Qa'ida."
"Sibel Edmonds was subpoenaed by a law firm representing more than 500 family members and survivors of the attacks to testify that she had seen information proving there was considerable evidence before September 2001 that al-Qa'ida was planning to strike the US with aircraft."

The 9/11 Commission Avoids the Hard Questions by (posted by Guido) Monday, Apr. 26, 2004 at 11:36 PM |
"Two and one half years after 3,000 people were killed in the World Trade Center in New York City, not only do most questions remained unanswered about 9/11, they remain unasked."
