Selon des sources qui se multiplient et se confirment, le président Aristide ne s'est pas enfui, mais a été chassé sous la menace par l'armée étatsunienne. Democracy Now rapporte un message téléphonique du président qui déclare: "J'ai été kidnappé. Dites au monde qu'il s'agit d'un coup !".
