25 years ago, Spain had its first Constitution after Franco’s dictatorship. On Saturday, many people will celebrate it, and many people will go to the streets to request some changes that they consider basic actually.

On Saturday 6th December, the Spanish Constitution will be 25 years old.
This date will be very important for the democracy and political system in Spain.

On 6th December 1978, one of the most important steps in the Spanish History was given with the sign of that Document, which meant the real transition from a very long dictatorship to a young and immature democracy then.

In that moment, all the parties were together, with the support of the king Juan Carlos I (established by Franco before he died to continue his regime. But at the end, King Juan Carlos supported the Democracy too after 1975. Debates about why he did it are still opened.).

Now, 25 years after, many things have changed. And of course, the Spanish Democracy is young yet, but everyday more and more stable.

The Transition was faster than it was thought at the beginnig.
Except a failed attempt on 23 February 1981 where the Army tried to take the control of the Parliament solved because the political parties and the king were together against a new military regime again.

People who remember that day, the famous “23 F”, say that they thought that everything would back again and another Spanish civil war would be possible.

Nowadays, the Spanish public opinion agrees with the actual political system and the way that have been walked.
It is known that it hasn’t been easy to get a “free” State, a right to vote, political parties to choose…etc.

But of course, nothing is perfect and everything needs changes sometimes, and some sectors in Spain want them in the Constitution: specially the nationalistic parties from Vasque Country or Catalunya, and some parties or movements who want more radical changes on it.

On Saturday, everything in Spain will go around to that important day, from ceremonies at the Parliament to public or political debates in all media.

And, of course, because now it is possible, manifestations for and against the actual Constitution to protest for these changes.

One of the most important manifestations againts the actual Constitution and Monarchy will be on Saturday at 12.30 from Atocha to Puerta del Sol in Madrid.
Their requests are: No Monarchy Constitution and Right for the self-determination for Vasque Country and Cataluyna.

Now it is unknown how much people will go to these manifestations, not only in Madrid, there will be in many places in Spain, but it is true that many people agree with the actual Document too.

So, debates are opened again.

¿ Te acuerdas de esto ?
