Five of the 'Saloniki 7' have been on hungerstrike for between 45 and 62 days in protest against their imprisonment. Simon Chapman is pictured left in his 44th day without food. Following a detailed medical report, a third application for release, and a broadcast of the Greek state TV, a Supreme Court prosecutor ordered an investigation into claims that Simon Chapman was framed. The hungerstrike "includes now most certainly the risk of causing irreversible health damages".

The 'Saloniki 7' were imprisoned on false charges following demos at the EU Summit in Thessaloniki in June 2003. Five of them are on hungerstrike protesting against the circumstances of their arrests and imprisonment. Spiros Tsitsas has been without food since Oct 7th, Simon Chapman, Fernardo and Carlos have not eaten since 5th Oct. Suleiman "Castro" Dakduk has been on a hunger strike since 21 Sept [see IMC-Thessaloniki for up-to-date figures].

at 5.00 pm today, there is a gathering in front of the Greek Counsulate in
Gent (near Kouter square). We are gathering to show soliderity with the 7
people who are imprisoned in Tessaloniki after the EU summit last June. Five
of these seven have been on hunger strike between 46 and 63 days.
Their health has reached a critical point. They need your support. Forward
this message around and come to Kouter Square this evening at 5.00 o'clock!

ik heb dit bericht van de aktie telaat gelezen...
ik was erbij in Saloniki en ben op een haar na ontsnapt aan een matrakslag en arrestatie.Bij het leed van de gevangenen
krijg ik dan ook koude rillingen.
Zoals ik daar gehoord heb wil de griekse politie als waarschuwing voor de omstreden olympische spelen elke mogelijke acties ontmoedigen, door deze arrestanten in een ware hel te storten.
