"In a letter to United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan, the Liberation Army of Iraq announced its intention to go after any foreign military presence in Iraq. It urged Annan against sanctioning the use of a multinational military force to oversee Iraq's post-war era."
Meanwhile, thousands of Iraqis defied the new decree by the U.S.-appointed governing council banning the celebration of July 14 commemorating for the end of the Iraqi monarchy in 1958.
