"Partijbestuur aanvaardt excuses voor 'inschattingsfout'" luidt het tweede titeltje van het met de initialen G.T. ondertekende artikel in De Morgen.

Het Agalev-partijbestuur besprak vrijdagavond de uitspraken van Hamels in De Morgen en volgens de voorzitter van dat bestuur, Kris De Nys, "betreurt het partijbestuur dit incident en aanvaardt het de excuses van Johan Hamels voor deze inschattingsfout." Volgens Vlaams parlementslid Jos Stassen bestond die inschattingsfout erin dat Hamels de indruk heeft gegeven dat hij bewust informatie heeft achtergehouden, maar hij is daaromtrent nooit onduidelijk geweest."

Betekent dit dat het partijbestuur van Agalev wel goed ingelicht was over de carrière van Hamels ? Vraag die in De Morgen opnieuw niet gesteld werd. Evenmin als de vraag of dit 'incident' de relaties van Agalev met bv. de vredesbeweging en de echte linkerzijde niet nog meer gaat vertroebelen.

Want laat er geen onduidelijkheid over bestaan. Het NDI waarvoor Hamels werkte wordt wel degelijk - zo meldde De Morgen van zaterdag opnieuw - gefinancierd door USAID én het NED dat volgens De Morgen van vrijdag, een CIA-creatie is.

Om paranoide van te worden ? Wie durft er Hamels en collega's nog uitnodigen op 'actie-vergaderingen' ten gunste van bv. het Iraaks verzet ?

"Het is vreemd eigenlijk. In Oost-Europa, Azië of Afrika heb ik kunnen putten uit mijn ervaringen met Agalev. Nu keer ik terug om Agalev te helpen met mijn ervaringen van ginder."

"Toen ik in 1995 van het Amerikaanse National Democratic Institute for International Affairs de kans kreeg om wat ik bij Agalev had geleerd door te geven in andere landen, heb ik niet lang geaarzeld.

Neem Kroatië bijvoorbeeld. We begeleidden daar de Servische partij die in sommige streken een sterke minderheid of zelfs meerderheid heeft. Alleen wil geen enkele Kroatische partij met hen samenwerken -- op de Kroatische Nationalisten na. De Servische partij moet dus andere partijen zoeken om mee samen te werken. Net zoals ook Agalev heeft moeten leren samenwerken met andere partijen. In de jonge jaren van groen was dat niet vanzelfsprekend."

"In Roemenië, Bosnië, Macedonië bijvoorbeeld hebben we nieuwe of hervormde partijen geholpen. Niet met het schrijven van een programma, maar wel met hun organisatie. Wat we hen vooral moesten leren was banden te smeden met hun kiezers."

"Ze wijzen erop dat Hamels op het congres wel degelijk over de Amerikanen heeft gepraat tijdens de vragenronde. Alleen is het niet erg slim van de partijsecretaris om in de pers te zeggen dat je iets hebt verzwegen voor de leden. ,,Wellicht zal Hamels flink op zijn donder krijgen, zal hij zich uitgebreid moeten excuseren en is daarmee de zaak gesloten. Tenslotte heeft noch de selectiecommissie, noch het partijbestuur, noch de politieke raad ooit enige vragen gehad bij zijn werkgever, het NDI.''

"Ook het kabinet van staatssecretaris voor Ontwikkelingssamenwerking Boutmans haast zich om te zeggen dat er met het NDI niets verkeerds aan de hand is. ,,'t Zijn Amerikanen, dat klopt. Maar niet alles wat van Amerika komt, is slecht. Dit is een koosjere organisatie, wat ons betreft."

U.S. taxpayers paid for 5,000 cans of spray paint used by student activists to scrawl anti-Milosevic graffiti on walls across Serbia, and 2.5 million stickers with the slogan 'He's Finished,' which became the revolution's catchphrase."

U.S. and Western European funds were channelled to right-wing opposition parties and media through such organizations as the National Endowment for Democracy and George Soros’ Open Society Institute. The National Democratic Institute (NDI) is yet another of the myriad semi-private organizations that have attached themselves like leeches on Eastern Europe. The NDI opened an office in Belgrade in 1997, hoping to capitalize on opposition attempts to bring down the government through street demonstrations. By 1999, the NDI had already trained over 900 right-wing party leaders and activists on “message development, public outreach and election strategy.” NDI also claimed to have provided “organizational training and coalition-building expertise” to the opposition. "In fact, as dozens of other groups began shelling out the dough to buy 30-minute and one-hour slots, a series of "humanitarian" stations also rose out of the static: Radio Agatashya to Rwanda, Star Radio in Liberia, Radio Ndeke Luka to the Central African Republic, Blue Sky Radio in Kosovo, Radio Ecclésia to Angola, and Voice of the People to Zimbabwe. Although at first glance these stations could easily pass off as what they claim to be (ambitious international efforts to promote change funded through grants and donations), revelations emerged recently about Clinton's use of these nonprofits to overthrow Serbian president Slobodan Milosevic. According to The Washington Post on September 19, Clinton used US$77 million "to do with ballots what NATO bombs could not." That is, the U.S. government funneled cash to opposition candidates, newspaper and broadcast editors were paid off, and independent media outlets were funded. The "official" grantor of this aid was not the CIA, however, but the NDI and USAID,among others."

Wie zit er in het bestuursorgaan van de NED?

"The NED Website cites as evidence of its non-governmental status that:

"[NED] Board members are not selected by the President and those who are appointed to serve in the Executive Branch relinquish their Board membership"

Let us consider the real significance of this statement.

A look at the make-up of the NED's Board of Directors, and at the Boards of its "core institutes," reveals a high percentage of top US foreign policy planners and operatives. For example, it includes:

* Ambassador Morton Abramowitz, a top US intelligence planner;

* Richard C. Holbrooke, former Special Balkans Envoy and later Ambassador to the UN; instrumental in the savaging of Indonesia and East Timor in the 1970s and of Yugoslavia in the 1990s;

* General Wesley K. Clark, head of the illegal NATO war against Yugoslavia.

One of the NED's so-called "core institutes," the National Democratic Institute (NDI) is headed by Madeleine Albright. She is former US Ambassador to the UN and was the Secretary of State who championed bombing Yugoslavia, resulting in the deaths of thousands.

Another NED core group, the IRI, is led by John McCain and includes, among other notables:

* Ambassador J. William Middendorf, II , a key Wall Street connection who was U.S. Ambassador to the Organization of American States from 1981-1985, that is, during the most intense period of US attack on Central America

Brent Scowcroft, both a big business and top military connection. Among other things: was Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs under President Bush, Sr.

Lawrence S. Eagleburger was Deputy Secretary of State and then Secretary of State under George Bush. He helped organize the breakup of Yugoslavia.

And on and on. The point is, rather than expressing the whim of this or that President, with the NED and its core groups (such as the IRI and the NDI) we have the direct involvement of the big business-military Establishment. Through NED, IRI and other groups they directly control US foreign operations, overseeing the creation and funding of phony "democracy" groups to subjugate target countries."
