Uitspraak komt erg ongelegen voor Bush en Blair

Vorige week zei Wolfowitz dat de kwestie van de massavernietigingswapens niet meer dan een administratieve reden was voor het begin van een oorlog. De beschuldiging was vooral bedoeld om bondgenoten te vinden in de strijd tegen Saddam Hoessein.

Wolfowitz is één van de belangrijkste neoconservatieve haviken in het Witte Huis. Zijn uitspraken komen erg ongelegen voor de Amerikaanse en Britse regeringen. Zowel de Britse premier Blair als de Amerikaanse president Bush kwamen de voorbije dagen hevig onder vuur te liggen. Allebei worden ze ervan verdacht dat zij hun volk misleid hebben door informatie over het Iraakse wapenprogramma te manipuleren.

Dit verhaal stond ook in de Guardian en sommigen claimen dat de inhoud van dat artikel gewijzigd is.

Also, please note, the correction contains an error. The actual quote was, ""Look, the primarily difference -- to put it a little too simply -- between North Korea and Iraq is that we had virtually no economic options with Iraq because the country floats on a sea of oil. In the case of North Korea, the country is teetering on the edge of economic collapse and that I believe is a major point of leverage whereas the military picture with North Korea is very different from that with Iraq. The problems in both cases have some similarities but the solutions have got to be tailored to the circumstances which are very different."

By the way, het interview met Wolfowitz is al een maand oud, waarom nu pas al die aandacht daarvoor? Om de aandacht af te leiden van wat er gebeurd in Irak misschien?
