Bruce Springsteen supports Dixie Chicks
by Bruce Springsteen Tuesday April 22, 2003 at 10:59 PM

The Dixie Chicks have taken a big hit lately for exercising their basic right to express themselves. To me, they're terrific American artists expressing American values by using their American right to free speech. For them to be banished wholesale from radio stations, and even entire radio networks, for speaking out is un-American.

The pressure coming from the government and big business to enforce conformity of thought concerning the war and politics goes against everything that this country is about - namely freedom. Right now, we are supposedly fighting to create freedom in Iraq, at the same time that some are trying to intimidate and punish people for using that same freedom here at home.

I don't know what happens next, but I do want to add my voice to those who think that the Dixie Chicks are getting a raw deal, and an un-American one to boot. I send them my support.

Thanks for saying what so many of us think. I haven't seen such vilification and attempt to censor since let's see............maybe Saddam?

Bruce, re: Dixie Chicks.....because they are entertainers, does not necessarily mean they have any brains......to publicly denounce the President of the UNited States....to that audience goes over and beyond.....and it is MY right to boycott them and NOW, you !! What do you "stars" think....you come out of high school, sing or act, and all of a sudden, you know how to run a government!!!! Amazing !!!

get over it!!

The Dixie Chicks have apologized. What more can they do? I may not agree with what natalie said, but that doesn't mean I'm not going to listen to their music. Why aren't other entertainers getting bashed like the chicks? They still rock and I will continue to listen to their music! For those who refuse to listen anymore, all I can say is it's your loss and you're seriously missing out!!!!!
