Workers from various factories in the metropolis walked-out from their respective assembly lines and together they marched toward the bussiness district of Metro Manila in Ayala, Makati yesterday (April 1, 2003). This direct action of the working class was participated by a number of 15,000 strong rank and file workers from various industries.

They sieged the bussiness district by blockading each road intersection to prevent the corporate bosses to enter their respective offices at around 1pm (Philippine time). During the workers-led civil disobedience, they call on "yuppies" (white-collar workers) to leave their offices and join the anti-war protest as well as the protest for the protection of labor rights and the call for an intensification of CLASSWAR.

Some office workers spontaneously joined the action but some sympathized the protest by throwing conffetti atop the buildings of their offices. Some have seen cheering the workers on the streets and some did work stoppage by watching the huge protest at the streets through their office window pane.

According to one of the urban poor participant of the huge protest action, he said that this protest is only just a beggining. The State should expect more series of massive protest action that will occur before Labor Day- May 1. He said, "as of now let us all be ready for the April 12 Global anti-war action, various of broad local peace advocates is expected to gather for a MASS STRIKE to pressure the government to withdraw their support against the U.S.-led coalition of the KILLING. #
