At around six o'clock the protesters, till about 1000 people, slowly got locked in by the police.
The ones that realised that soon enough still managed to get behind the police lines, beyond the intersection and in a side street.
By the time most peace activists realised what was going on they were stopped. The group that had managed to get out before was split up at the intersection, one group got pushed into the side street, the other group got pushed back, just a few meters at first, then to the next intersection and, finally, chased down to Throne Square by use of the water cannon.
The people trapped within the blockade were checked out and released one by one, a group of 45 people got arrested. Four people have been charged.
A member of the legal teams told me that we were pushed back far enough form the people enclosed because they didn't want any witnesses for the illegal way they were treating the remaining protesters, of which most remained calm and peaceful, yet determined throughout the whole thing.
