L'idée vient de Desmond Tutu, prix Nobel de la paix 1984 pour son combat pacifique en faveur de l'égalité raciale en Afrique du Sud. Vendredi matin, plus de 3000 veilles étaient déjà prévues dans une centaine de pays.

En Belgique, des veilles auront lieu à Anvers, Bruges, Bruxelles, Gand, Genappe, Hasselt, Huy, Liège, Mortsel, Ottignies, Tirlemont, Turnhout, etc.

Participe à une des veilles prévues ou organise la tienne ! Amène tes amis, des bougies (dans un bocal pour les protéger du vent), un briquet.

It appears that the Bush administration will fail to win Security Council support for war, and world public opinion has been a key part of this. MoveOn.org and the Win Without War coalition, together with Archbishop Desmond Tutu and many faith-based organizations, are calling for this global vigil -- and we need your help.

Deze namiddag kwamen in Vilvoorde een twintigtal mensen bij mekaar in een stille wake tegen de nakende oorlog in Irak.
Zelfs de jongsten onder ons zijn zich enorm bewust van het gevaar van een derde wereldoorlog.
Ze willen de juiste informatie, en bezitten een enorm potentieel aan enthousiasme en gedrevenheid.
Hun gevoel van machteloosheid omzetten in bewustwording en solidariteit, is een prioritaire opdracht voor allen die met hen begaan zijn.
En daarom : NEEN AAN DE OORLOG.
