Rotterdam- The successful tour of AEL president Dyab Abou Jahjah through the Netherlands continues. After the launching of the AEL Dutch branch last Sunday and the presentation of the four members of its interim board, a series of lectures by Abou Jahjah started in Utrecht. The conference rooms are overfull and the atmosphere extremely supporting and enthusiastic. In The Hague (Den Haag) on Monday 400 people filled the largest hall of the local University while hundreds watched the lecture through big screens outside of the building. Abou Jahjah spoke about citizenship as an alternative to assimilation and about the way that Arabs and Muslims in Europe have to lead in order to achieve total equality. Amid heavy applause Abou Jahjah outlined the general lines of the AEL vision. Dozens of
sympathisers stayed late after the lecture ended to have a talk with the AEL president.
Yesterday in Rotterdam the subject was the war on Iraq, once again the public showed great support of the positions of the AEL against this unjust war. In the mean time the members of the newly established branch reached above 400 with a rate of 20 new members a day and this before really starting a real recruiting campaign on the grassroots level. After a meeting with some 150 members this evening in Rotterdam Abou Jahjah expressed his optimism and satisfaction and called upon all the members to start working on expending the geographical branches to reach every city, neighbourhood and street in the country.
End of May 2003 the AEL-NL will hold its national congress to elect a president and a board of administrators.

Enkele programmapunten voor het binnenland: mensen moeten geld krijgen voor hun deelname aan Nederlandse lessen. De Nederlandse spellingsregels mogen de komende vijftig jaar niet worden veranderd. Islamitische feestdagen moeten nationale feestdagen worden. Berbers, Arabisch en Turks moeten vakken op school worden.

Het burgerlijk huwelijk wordt vervangen door een samenlevingscontract, eventueel op levensbeschouwelijke basis en aan te gaan vanaf zestien jaar. Man en vrouw mogen pas uit elkaar na bemiddeling en therapie.

Ouderenzorg wordt niet verder uitgebreid, want ouderen wonen bij hun kinderen in. Supermarkten mogen geen alcohol verkopen en seks in reclame wordt verboden.

De AEL, die nu driehonderd leden zou hebben, richt zich op Marokkaanse jongeren. Turken zijn al goed georganiseerd, is de redenering. Verkiezingssucces wordt verwacht in de grote steden, waar veel Marokkanen wonen.

Bij de presentatie van de AEL Nederland was Dyab Abou Jahjah, Belg van Libanese komaf en leider van de Belgische AEL. Jahjah staat aan het hoofd van de AEL Europa, die nog afdelingen wil beginnen in Frankrijk en Engeland. Hij begon gisteren een reeks lezingen in Nederland.
