Russian diplomats probe Lithuania-based Chechen website
Interfax. Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, 3:45 PM Moscow Time
MOSCOW. Feb 8 (Interfax) - Russian diplomats are looking into the activities of a Chechen website based in Lithuania, Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Yakovenko told Interfax on Saturday.
The server of the Microlink Deita company has supported the Kavkaz Center New Agency's website for a long time, media reported. The Lithuanian authorities have not taken any steps to stop these activities.
The site promotes Chechen terrorist propaganda aimed at derailing the upcoming constitutional referendum, media reported.
"The Russian Embassy in Vilnius is checking information on this site," Yakovenko noted.
Experts believe the former Chechen minister of information, Movladi Udugov, probably sponsors the site. Udugov has been put on the international Wanted List.
Russian hackers shut down the Internet site in the wake of the Moscow theatre hostage crisis.
