In God we trust

Why will the United States sacrify soldiers and invest thousands of millions of dollars in invading Iraq?
Why does George Bush's government insist on making its citizens believe that Husein is a threat to the world?
The answer lays on the weakend US economy that has ensure a cheap and continous supply of oil and this can be accomplished only militarily.

Eventhough US has other sources of energy and covers part of its energetic necesities exploiting its own oil reserves, US will need in a medium time limit to import a major quantity of oil since its reserves are not so great; without this combustible import it would be very dificult for the northamerican economy to accomplished a sustained growth.

The Persian Gulf has the greatest quantity of non-exploited oil deposits and the offer of oil originating from this part of the world influences drastically in determining the international price, on the other side eventhough US has allies in the Persian Gulf; countries like Iran or Iraq do not approve the participation of US companies in the development of non-exploited deposits.

These kinds of obstacles for US plans would impede to assure an offer continuously economically accesible for United States homes, industries and businesses.

That is why it's important a change in the Iraq regime, 3rd international place in oil reserves.

Nevertheless to be able tu justify a militar ocupation in Irak, (without the UN aproval), Washington has to convince United States citizens that international terrorism endangers their security and liberty. Also that Husein is a threat to the "free world" and many other so-called "arguments" with which the United States government and press have used to discredit a government that can rely on the mayority of the Iraqui population; the northamerican press inclusive has even qualified the northamericans as traitors that have cars that consume great quantities of combustible.

Washington has been successful at obtaining the aproval of its pupulation to go to war, in order to accounts United States has an apathetic population who is indifferent. They will behave meekly while their ability to purchase is safe.

United States national security in effect, depends on a war against Irak but not for the massive destructive weapons issue, nor fot the Islamic terrorism, but because it is necesary to increment oil reserves to be able to control the oil offer and along with this its price. Also to be able to sustain an economical growth.

If the United States is able to maintain a good standard of living the northamerican people will not have any internal problems, furthermore Israel's position would be propped up, controlling the Middle East and the export of oil to Europe.

Because of all this I believe it is important for us to take conscience of the issue because besides the humanitary disaster that will take place in Iraq, Mexico and Latin America are also in danger; Mexico has great oil reserves still not exploited in the Gulf of Mexico, (United States has not ratified Gulf of Mexico maritime limits) Nevertheless what is happening in Venezuela and Colombia is not an accident but its reason is the big impact on United States' foreign policy has, oil.

Good analysis
by Ben Sunday February 09, 2003 at 11:39 AM

And if this analysis is true - and I think this is the case - then a first solution can be to take of the pressure. The pressure that lays on the imminent shortage (relative shortage of course to the current amount of consumption). If 40% of the world oil consumption is in car fuel, then the policy should be to give the highest priority to development of engines that are not using petrol: electric cars.

All major car producers have their prototype of performant electric cars since 5 to 7 ago. There was even a sun-energy car that won a race. There are two weak points:

1. The accumalator or battery size must be reduced for equal or even greater power.
2. The patent for such engine concept should not be sold to the oil industry.
3. A budget is needed for an efficient PR round to convert the mentality of the car driving public.

Better technologies

It is of utmost importance that we pave the way for better technologies in energy production and consumption. For about 10 years I have been searching and some I found, are truly to share with very little pollution in return.

It should be noticed that the stockage of electricity in batteries requires a lot of very polluting chemistry, like dangerous fluids and heavy and toxic metals like plumb. Although an electrical car doesn't exhaust these chemicals while driving, the danger remains that they are dispersed in nature afterwards.

However, to my findings, better technologies do exist. One of them is the zero-pollution-car driving 200km on compressed air. This is a really refreshing and brandnew technology, since they are only taken into production since a couple of months. Please surf to http://www.bellwetherinteractive.com/mdi for more direct information on this kind of cars.

Furthermore, I am convinced that wind energy is a very important provider of energy, not only for the production of electricity. It is sufficient to mount an air compressor instead of an electricity generator to supply pressurised air for cars to drive on. Other possibilities are the production of hot water with water brakes and heat-pumps.
In 1996, I took a three months trainee-ship in the Danish Folkecenter for Renewable Energy in order to be able to learn about and experience with small scale windturbines.

There, I also studied a report on the use of seatide and wave energy, written by Sti Vindelov, who was one of the pioneers in this field. To my regret this report was not returned to me after I borrowed it for an educational tour.
In this report it is stated that the coasts of Europe provide enough energy to supply Europe with energy. In this report the stress was rather on the production of electricity, but I think that this form is much better suited for the production of pressurised air!

However, clean technologies exist, the REAL problem is that the establishment do not want to accept them. Speaking out like this, I was excluded from work since my return from Denmark. I do not want to work in polluting industries any longer, as I feel this would be a step backwards. But I did not find any goodwill of our government towards the development of these better technologies, so I stayed busy at home with small scale research and development out of the 'trash-can'. I plan to show some of these findings to the world in springtime. Interested or you want to help set up a campaign? Mail me!

we are not apathetic in north america
by bluenose---in canada Sunday February 09, 2003 at 07:26 PM

it is rather obvious that this war isn't truly about hussein or his warlord rule over iraq, instead it is about the usa's insatiable greed and need for oil their federal reserves stand at at 26 year supply, which isn't much for the world's superpower. in fact, in NAFTA( north american free trade agreement), the USA has access to Canada's natural resources even if there is scarcity or an emergency in Canada. Also, they have access to our water--we have one of the world's largest supplies of fresh water. Indeed, the crisis in Venezuela was organised by the same people who orchestrated the coup of last year: they were coached by Washington. The images of Washington's leaders--Powell, Rumsfield etc attempting to sell a war for a slight legal reason under int'l law leaves one sick and sad at the moral emptiness of the USA. However, the people of the USA appear to have mixed emotions according to polls( which are manipulated and suspect, of course) and the people of Canada don't want a war---it could be argued we don't want to Sleep next to an Elephant, in future, either. We have said we will agree to the use of force under the authority of the UN---if this position carries any moral weight or authority. It is a stalling tactic in the same manner as Blix. Stalling until it seems the inevitable: yet, the costs of this war are immeasureable. Millions of Iraqis killed----possibly the Middle East inflamed, and the USA kills its own poor with its budget and a war while exterminating the poor in Iraq. It is not the famed liberty of the USA---it is imperialism by an out of control hegemon. Belgium, Germany and hopefully France are commended for their opposition to the USA. Canada will hold out as long as possible---I only hope our cities aren't bombed in the terrible retalitatory measures from terrorists that are sure to occur after the start of this ugly war.
