February 15: An Anarchist Call for Global Action against Capitalism and War by Sexy anarchist bloc Monday February 03, 2003 at 07:29 PM |
An international anarchist call for direct actions on February 15th against capitalism and war.
The ongoing war between the United States, the United Kingdom and Iraq is only one component of a global struggle between the rich and powerful and the billions who are oppressed for their benefit. Blair and Bush, like bin Laden and Hussein, use the politics of international war as a diversion from their wars against the poor, the excluded, and the Earth.
From the West Bank to the West Side, and from the rainforests of Colombia to the farmlands of Great Britain, the ruling class maneuvers to extract the maximum profits from the Earth and its people. International war is one more tactic in this class war, for the acquisition of natural resources, the elimination of surplus populations, and the consolidation of patriotic unity between the oppressors and the oppressed.
On February 15, 2003, millions around the globe will march in opposition to the escalation of this war. We call on all who seek a world free of the oppression of authoritarianism, capitalism, ethnic hatred and religious fundamentalism to participate in this unprecedented mobilization, through convergences in Amsterdam, Antwerp, Aotearoa, Athens, Bangkok, Barcelona, Belfast, Berlin, Berne, Brussels, Budapest, Cairo, Cape Town, Copenhagen, Dublin, Edmonton, Glasgow, Helsinki, Istanbul, Jakarta, Johannesburg, London, Lisbon, Madrid, Manila, Montreal, New York, Oslo, Paris, Prague, Ramallah, Rome, San Francisco, San Juan, Sao Paulo, Skopje, Stockholm, Sydney, Tallinn, Tokyo, Toronto, Vienna, Warsaw, and anywhere else, and to escalate this component of the struggle against the ruling class through direct action, including strikes, sabotage, sickouts, occupations, civil disobedience, and the mass reclamation of public space. Let's make our resistance to war visible in as many ways as possible!
From London and New York to Cairo and Ramallah, our resistance will be as global as their oppression. On February 15, to the streets! And to the barricades!
No war between states! No peace between classes!

... to make a call for action against the War on the 15th of February, two weeks before, while other people are mobilizing for months ...
The call for the demonstration on the 15th have been done by the European Social Forum long time ago, guys ... Not even mentioning it is totally dishonest. You're trying to appropriate someone's lese work.
You're just trying to hook your wagon to a train which is already at full speed. Nice contribution...
The most funny think about it is that if anybody else would do such a thing you would all boo and say they are 'recuperating' ( sorry, i'm not sure about that word in English ).
Pityful ...
c koi ze problem ? by nico Monday February 03, 2003 at 09:23 PM |
ils precisent bien :
On February 15, 2003, millions around the globe will march in opposition to the escalation of this war
what's ze problem ?
" Le problème " by red kitten Monday February 03, 2003 at 09:42 PM |

I don't see anything wrong with making a call in conjunction with the worldwide day of protest on February 15th. Lots of other groups have made similar calls and are organizing protests. Just because we are anarchists doesn't give you any right to single us out for criticism. Many of us support the general call for protests on the 15th. Infoshop endorsed the UFP's call for protest several weeks ago.
I'm offended at the suggestion that we threw this together overnight. Anarchists all over have been organizing protests for this month as part of our ongoing opposition to the war. This call is just part of that effort and is meant to rally people to take action on February 15th.
what about the anti-globalisation? by eAs Tuesday February 04, 2003 at 09:24 AM |

I always considered it to be soooooo unfair: Anarchists made the anti-globalisation movement what it is now, but hey, you guys jumped on the right track rather fast, so no complains... But as far as the media's concerned, we're just a small bunch of hooligans, while you guys get all the fame.
But we didn't start crying when you guys also called for protest, no, we were glad... Solidarity, like you communists allways proclaim, remember?
Now today, we also call for action, and so did over 200 ngo's, and i'm sure that some of them didn't do so right from the start. AND YOU'RE STILL WHINING TOWARDS THE ANARCHISTS...
If there's one thing i hoped we all learned from the actions like D14, it's that our differences are smaller then our resemblences, so LET'S ALL FIGHT OUR COMMON ENEMY FIRST, INSTEAD OF PICKING ON EACHOTHER LIKE CRAZY POLITICIANS.
Lots of love and understanding towards you,
Paz amor y anarquia

Redkitten,
I don't really get your point.
"On February 15, 2003, millions around the globe will march in opposition to the escalation of this war. We call on all who seek a world free of the oppression of authoritarianism, capitalism, ethnic hatred and religious fundamentalism to participate in this unprecedented mobilization."
Isn't it good that they call to join the mass-rallies? I don't agree that they also want to mobilise against "religious fundamentalism" without clarifying that the religious fundamentalism of Bush is 10.000 times more dangerous than the extremist reaction of some islamic movements, but hey that is not a reason to say that these anarchists are "recuperating"...
Hum, oui ... by red kitten Tuesday February 04, 2003 at 12:59 PM |

To Red Kitten:
Just a few days ago you wrote: "The enemy of my enemy isn't always my friend. But it can't be my tempiorary allie." (article 46862) Think about it.
A suggestion: first try to breath in and out a few times before writing a comment. They say it helps with "réaction un peu épidermique" :-)
To TUc:
To Chuck:
It's a typical Belgian situation. Don't worry about it to much. Keep up the good work and thanx for posting the call.
To eAs:
LET'S ALL FIGHT OUR COMMON ENEMY FIRST, INSTEAD OF PICKING ON EACH OTHER LIKE CRAZY POLITICIANS.
Those last three words might be more profetic than you intended them to be.
To Christophe C.:
"We call on all who seek a world free of ... religious fundamentalism to participate in this unprecedented mobilization"
