Rave Against the Occupation need your help
by posted by protesta Friday January 31, 2003 at 07:03 PM

Rave Against the Occupation has financial problems, and call for help.

This is an urgent call to supporters of peace everywhere.
We are a group of young Israelis, aspiring to promote peace and equality in Israel, and to put an end to the disastrous occupation in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. To this end we have initiated Rave Against the Occupation, an organization that has already produced two events which we can modestly describe as very successful.
The first was a non-violent party against the occupation, opposite the IDF's headquarters in Tel Aviv, where thousands of demonstrators danced to the music of Jewish and Arab musicians; the second party, about a month before the elections, took place in front of Ariel Sharon's house, where hundreds of people expressed their 'gratitude' for the
wonderful two years of peace and security we had under his leadership.
This event enjoyed strong and emphatic support from our sister-movement, Gush Shalom.
Both activities attracted unprecedented media coverage: activities of the peace camp in Israel are usually ignored by the media, but we enjoyed extensive coverage in all three big daily newspapers, all major radio stations, and both national TV channels in Israel, as well as most of the
news websites, and much foreign media.
We are now in a paradoxical situation - on one hand we are described as "the most authentic protest movement of Israeli youth today", but on the other hand our last activity has resulted in a debt of about $2000, a debt which endangers our future action, since we are all young people in our
twenties, having difficulties making a living as it is.
We are sending out a desperate call for help. Please help us in helping our country to emerge from this dark age. Please help a generation that wants to stop living by the sword.
We will gladly accept cheques directed to KOL EZRAKHEYA
movement. Please send them to PO Box 23479, Tel Aviv, Zip 61233. For further details contact us:

shame on you!
by Els Friday January 31, 2003 at 08:38 PM

Aren't you ashamed?!
Making PARTIES to defy the occupation?!??
And then you dare to come and ask us for money???
While over 50% of Palestinians are living in absolute poverty!!!!!!

Don't tell me you can 't live with a 2000$ less! (imagining you're 10 in the group, meaning each 200$: it will mean no party this month, and maybe not even next month, but not leaving food for it! -and if gush shalom is supporting you, let these 10 adults then pay the debt!)

Do you realy think partying is challenging the occupying force?????? Let along your politicians! (they'll just laugh, 'cause in this way you're not at all a threat to their policies!)
In order to end the occupation there are other things needed than organizing raves!:
Boycott all products from the colonies ('settlements'), block all military transports to the occupied territories, refuse all to do your military service, inform people of what's REALY going on (+ the REAL history), put political pressure in all possible ways, make sure that Israel is signing and obeying international law (among others: dismantling waepons of mass distruction!), etc.
Only when I hear you're doing these things, you can get some credibility.

Your posting is realy outragous! I am absolutely disgusted.
If this is what 'the Israeli paece-movement' is about... (hmm, very promising!)

You're right about what you ask to the peace movement in Israel. They should do what you purpose. But. You have to see what's the situation of the peace movement in Israel, what is their real influence on the population. I'm sure it's difficult for them to work in this situation, most of Israelians support politic of agression of Sharon. One way to have influence on the population, and specialy the youth, is to organise this kind of stuff. If it were the only stuff organised by the Israeli Peace Movement, it'll be a problem, but they are doing more than just that. Raves are just, i think, a good way to bring youth in this movement. You should also say that we can't play music in demos against war in irak because war is not funny, and we can't dance about subjects like that. I'm not agreeing, music is one of the best way to give and share feelings, and to bring people. If we didn't made a sound-system in the last stop-usa demo, a lot of people weren't come... but shure we shoudn't reduce our action to only music...
