Statement against weapons delivery from Belgium

16-12-2002
Press Statement

We have been deeply attracted to the news that the Belgian government is delivering the sophisticated modern weapons to Nepal which helps the barbaric, feudal and medieval monarchy in blood-bathing more effectively and suppressing the struggle of the Nepalese people which have been fighting for a real democracy. It is well known that there has been constant struggle between two forces the people and the monarchy, and it is more polarised after the 4th of October. It is obvious to the whole world that the minimum democratic rights achieved through the People's movement, 1990 were curtailed, in a series of dramatic political development, the monarchy dismissed elected parliament, dissolved government, and instead of solving the political crisis which is in essence caused by the old feudal system which stood hindrance for development, peace and prosperity of the people, it has been killing people almost a dozen in average a day. At this time all parliamentary Political Parties, intellectuals, prominent personalities, civil Society and countless social organizations are conducting protest against the so-called king, Gyanendra, to accomplish the democratic movement, which has been essential for all. But the real democratic attitude of the Belgian Government has been unmasked with its unholy alliance with the medieval retrogressive monarchy when it delivered the ultra-sophisticated weapons in order to massacre the Nepalese People with the help of the Royal army.

It is highly deplorable and regretting that the Belgian Government visualizes the current political situation in Nepal as democratic. This very government decided not to deliver weapons even to the then Deuba government when the entire public opinion was against delivering weapons. The conditions are more worsening now than that time. What made the Belgian government stand in support of decedent feudalism and against the democracy of the Nepalese people? What made the Belgian government stand in favour of feudal terror, killing people, raping women, looting houses, arsoning villages, and destroying country every day by the fascist Gyanendra?s army and against the democracy peace and prosperity of the people? Is the Belgian government still in illusion that 23 million Nepalese people who have been fighting for democracy are terrorist and the murderous feudal lord who slained his own brother Birendra for despotic power and creating despotic terror is democratic? In our understanding, any democratic forces, any peace-loving element should stand in favour of the people and its democracy and against the despotic feudalism.

If the Belgian Government is really anxious about the Nepalese people and democracy, it must take stand for the democratic demands of the people, that are, the election of the Constituent Assembly and formation of an interim government, and oppose feudal repression; let the Nepalese people free to judge their fate themselves who have been fighting for democracy and scientifically forwarding political solution of the looming inequalities, injustice, oppression and contradictions large existing in the Nepalese society.

Finally we strongly request to all democratic and just-loving parties, organizations and people of Belgium to stand forcefully against the medieval barbaric feudal monarchy of Nepal and its international unholy-coalition. We urge the people here stand for the democracy of the Nepalese people.
