Demo10th Nov

The demonstration was large and lively, there was a positive vibe throughout and the people were bold and optimistic as we took to the streets to protest against the war on Iraq and the motives behind it, which is one of the only ways of letting the voice of the people be heard, and which clearly isn't appereciated by those in power.

Walking down the main street in Brussels our raised, united voices bounce off the buildings as we chant slogans in French, Arabic, Dutch and English. The crowd has an almost carnival feel, but it is impossible to not notice the thousands of armoured police lined up on either side of the demonstration with their visored helmets, shields and batons ready for action, as well as their huge menacing water canon trucks for back up. It is hard not to feel personally imposed on and insulted by this display of hostility.
The radical anti-imperialist platform of this demo not only condems the war but also the reasons behind US aggresion on Iraq and the rest of the world. The US doesnt want what it is actually doing to be common knowledge. We dont accept US propoganda that says Iraq is the problem, we know very well who is the problem, and that is why we dont expect the media to focus on the statements raised in this demo which show the real nature of the war.
