Preparative for the march against the FTAA.

The intercontinental meeting against the Free Trade Area of the Americas -FFTA began the 27th October 2002, in Quito, Ecuador and it will end the next Friday. The meeting is only started but it is already a big success.

The intercontinental meeting against the Free Trade Area of the Americas -FFTA began the 27th October 2002, in Quito, Ecuador and it will end the next Friday.

The Ecuadorian organizations have been working to the preparation of this event for several months. They succeeded to organize about 60 meetings between lectures, workshops, conferences etc, with enormous economical and logistic efforts.
Age Morales, Maria Luisa Mendoca, Alejandro Bendana and more others people participated at the meeting, giving their opinion about the FTAA.

The meeting is only started but it is already a big success.
From Sunday 27th of October, Latin-American people, Europeans, Canadians and North Americans filled the Quito roads. While, social movements started their march to towards the country to arrive in the capital next Thursday.

The efforts of the organizers did not succeed to stretch the connections with the government. In Quito reigns an atmosphere of strong tension. The governmental announced repressions against the demonstrators without giving any reason.

Unofficial, voices said that the march could have repercussion on the presidential elections of the second shift. While, worrying uncontrolled notices talk about flu of the United States.

At the moment the Ecuadorian government is collaborating with the police that already moved its special troops equipped of tears, you beats, guns and all necessary to disperse the march (inclusive water cannons, tanks and helicopters).

The provocateur attitude of the government had its effects; the moderate fringes of no global expressed their worries about their personal security during the March. While the extremists no-global said themselves ready to fight if it will be necessary. The organizations invited do not panic saying that the government is bluffing. They assure that there will not be violent actions during the march because is full of "Gringos" and not only Latin-American people.
