I'm Gurung Ram Bahadur, from Nepalese asylum seekers in Belgium. I'm living in Antwerpen.

[rK] Why are we here in front of the Nepalese embassy ?

Especially this time because our prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is in tour in Europe for dealing the weapons. So now in Belgium also weapons is very in discussion. We protest against delivery of weapons by Belgium. At this time in Nepal there's civil war. In this period to send the weapons is to kill more people, and innocent people. So we request to the Belgian government not to deliver the weapons at this moment.

[rK] Belgian government says Nepal's government needs those weapons to fight against terrorists ...

No, there's definitely no terrorism. People are in huge number participating in actions against the government. Millions of people are participating against the government, because there is so much oppression, so much exploitation. So when the Moaists go and attack the police stations, thousands of people support them to destroy the police post. This is not terrorism, this is the people's movement, this is the people's war.

[rK] Why are the people revolting against the government ?

The social situation is very very bad. In Nepal there is the Hindouism. Although there are more than sixty other religions, very few Hindu feudalists are ruling in Nepal. There is a real discrimination in many communities. There're other contradictions between the feudalists and the paesants. It's very difficult for the peasants to survive in Nepal, the government is very corrupted. The government really doesn't try develloppe the country. This is the really bad situation of Nepal.

[rK] But it seems they have money to buy weapons ...

We oppose them because the government is not spending the money for education, health care or things for the welfare of people. But the use it to oppress the people, because people raising wise to get their rights, their democatic rights and to survive as human. Only the Maoists have raised those questions, only them have made demands concerning [ ...], freedom and things like these ... The government is not doing anything about those demands. They are only doing oppression.

[rK] Why are western countries supporting Nepalese
government ?

The westerns governments are in favour of our government, but not all the people are not supporting our governmant, like here in Belgium, many people are against the delivery of the weapons. They also have their own interests in Nepal in helping the government.

[rK] What do you think about the westren media coverage on Nepal ?

Western media is not doing well about what's actually happening in Nepal. The situation in Nepal is really different than what they show on the television. This isn't reality.
