ATTAC-BRUXELLES AND D14 TALKING ABOUT UNICE

Even inside groups like ATTAC and D14, it is seldom mentioned. Very seldom, too seldom.

UNICE is the Union of Confederations of Industry and Employers of Europe, a little-known entity, although it aspires to help its child - the "European Business Summit" - grow into the "European Davos ". This organisation is little known beyond the sphere of initiates, but it is not without influence.

Its preferred interlocutor, almost unique but very attentive: the European Commission. UNICE's avowed aim is to have the Commission accept its neo-liberal programme. UNICE's vaunted means of action: lobbying.

The congress which UNICE and the Federation of Belgian Businesses (FEB) are hosting from the 6th to the 8th of June with European Community support, is quite rightly called the «European Business Summit». For the anti-globalists or alter-globalists that we are, their programme, called the «10 priorities», is an exact copy of everything we decry. Our priorities are radically different to those in UNICE's bill of "Businessman's Rights": our aim is to organise a European citizen's area for the defence of public services, social rights . and another Europe.

The 7th June, at 6 p.m. at the Brussels Stock Exchange: "loving, dancing, laughing and eating" a picnic in music, song and colour; with the participation of musicians and street theatre troupes.
