Een ander Europa is mogelijk?
Een half jaar protesten tijdens het Belgisch EU-voorzitterschap
Een klein half jaar geleden startte Verhofstadt met een enthousiaste agenda aan het Belgisch voorzitterschap van de EU. Toen al waren verscheidene koepelorganisaties protesten aan het voorbereiden voor een ander Europa.
Na verscheidene kleinschaligere acties riepen er begin September in Brugge een 1500-tal betogers op voor een ander Europees handelsbeleid. In Leuven verzamelden honderden activisten om te protesteren tegen de EU-top van mobiliteit en milieu tijdens een betoging en een reclaim the streetsparty. Nog een week later hielden zowel de vakbonden als de S22-koepelorganisatie een betoging tijdens de Financiele top in Luik. Op 19 oktober had er een informele EU-top plaats in Gent. Overdag organiseerden NGO's, anarchisten, linkse politieke partijen, de vredesbeweging, vakbonden,…. eigen acties tegen de huidige EU. ‘s Avonds vond er een pluralistisch manifeest plaats voor "een ander Europa in een andere wereld" met een 15 000 deelnemers.

After several small actions, about 1500 demonstrants called for another European tradepolicy early September in Bruges. In Leuven, hundreds came together to protest the EU-summit of mobility and environment in a demo and reclaim the streetsparty. And another week later, both Unions as the S22-umbrella organisation held a demo during the Financial summit in Liege. On october 19th, an informal EU-summit took place in Ghent. In daytime, NGO's, anarchists, left political parties, the peace movement, unions,… organised their own actions against the present EU. In the evening, a pluralist manifestation took place for "another Europe in another world" with about 15 000 participants.

Une autre Europe est possible ?

Une demi-année de protestations pendant la présidence belge de l'UE.

Il y a près de six mois, Verhofstadt a accédé à la présidence de l'Union Européenne avec un agenda chargé de bonne intentions. Plusieurs éventails d'organisations avaient déjà commencé la préparation des protestations pour une autre Europe.
Après quelques actions de petite envergure, 1500 manifestants se sont réunis à Bruges au début du mois de septembre pour lancer un appel en faveur d'une autre politique européenne en matière de commerce. A Louvain, une manifestation et une streetparty ont rassemblé des centaines de militants pour contester le sommet européen sur la mobilité et l'environnement. Une semaine plus tard, les syndicats et l'éventail d'organisations s22 ont chacun tenu une manifestation à l'occasion du sommet des Finances à Liège (15.000 et 1700 personnes). Le 19 octobre, un sommet informel a eu lieu à Gand. Pendant la journée, les ONG, anarchistes, partis de gauche, mouvements pour la paix, syndicats,… ont organisé leurs propres actions contre l'Union européenne actuelle. Le soir, une manifestation pluraliste a réuni près de 15.000 personnes pour «une autre Europe dans un autre Monde».
