Voor Agalev is de steun aan de agressie tegen Afghanistan geen breekpunt, had ik op deze website geschreven. ‘Agalev is een partij die oog heeft voor alle aspecten in dit complexe debat en niet blindelings voor of tegen de oorlog kiest', reageerde een woedende Peter Vanhoutte, federaal volksvertegenwoordiger van de Groenen. Niet blindelings, neen, de Groenen kiezen doordacht voor de oorlog. Zijn groene collega Joschka Fischer, zowat de belangrijkste Europese groene politicus van het moment, draait er minder kak rond, zoals ze bij ons zeggen. Want het is niet alleen Agalev dat uit de bocht gaat. Alle Europese groene partijen kiezen eensgezind voor de oorlog.

Berlijn, zes oktober. Joschka Fischer, de Duitse minister van buitenlandse zaken en groen toppoliticus, geeft een uiteenzetting over de oorlog in Afghanistan op de Grüner Länderrat, voor eigen publiek dus. De kernideeën in zijn speech zijn de volgende :

1// De VS kunnen niet anders dan hard reageren, een te zwakke reacties kan fatale gevolgen hebben.
2// De aanslag is een aanval op de democratie, we moeten daarom efficiënt en hard reageren
3// We zullen nergens geraken met het traditionele antwoord ‘stop de oorlog'
4// We staan onvoorwaardelijk achter onze coalitiepartner de VS, hun reactie op de aanslag is extreem rationeel en gepast
5// Als de VS zich na de eerste aanslag op de WTC niet hadden beperkt tot politie-onderzoeken, en niet hadden geluisterd naar de vredesactivisten, dan hadden ze 11 september misschien kunnen voorkomen
6// Nu we in de regering zitten is er niemand die er nog wakker van ligt of onze overtuiging nog zuiver is. Kunnen we problemen efficiënt aanpakken, dat is wat telt.

"Over 6000 innocent people have lost their lives and the USA will respond to that. They will have to respond to that. And there isn't only an over-response with fatal consequences, there is also an under-response with fatal consequences."

"It wasn't just an attack on the USA, on the government, on the nation, on the people. It was also an attack on open society. This we have to know. Especially in our party. I never belonged to those who considered the term 'multicultural' as old fashioned, because I am convinced by it. I don't belong to those who say that we ought to have a society sealed off as much as possible. I think that would lead to madness. But we have to realise, that if we don't take on this responsibility with efficiency, appropriate toughness, sound thinking and awareness, then we will experience a development in our society where hatred will emerge in the heads of many people here in the west."

"And I'm telling you that we won't get anywhere with traditional answers, with the thesis 'no war'. Who wants war? That certainly isn't the central question in this room. Because the question is: How will we address this deadly danger without giving up our own values?"

4// We staan onvoorwaardelijk achter onze coalitiepartner de VS, hun reactie op de aanslag is extreem rationeel en gepast

"Who among us would have ever thought that article 5 of the NATO treaty would ever be called upon (...) In such a situation it is only natural that we stand, without reservations, beside the coalition partner who was attacked. (...) We also come to recognise that the US administrations are acting in an extremely rational and sensible manner: firm, decisive, but not at all as some in our country say."

5// Als de VS zich na de eerste aanslag op de WTC niet hadden beperkt tot politie-onderzoeken, en niet hadden geluisterd naar de vredesactivisten, dan hadden ze 11 september misschien kunnen voorkomen

"Is it acceptable that the United States simply restrict itself to police investigations? I suggest to everyone: familiarise yourselves with the history of terrorist attacks on the United States. This same attack was to have been made in 1993. At that time the north tower was to be blown up with an appropriately strong bomb in the basement, in the underground garage. The north tower was to fall into the south tower and both were to collapse together - that, which has just been successfully achieved by other means. (...) The United States had acted in the way as those, who now say 'no war!' demanded. (...) But that has not prevented what just occurred."

6// Nu we in de regering zitten is er niemand die er nog wakker van ligt of onze overtuiging nog zuiver is, kunnen we problemen aanpakken, dat is wat telt.

"In Cologne we decided to join the government. (...) We are now in a position of responsibility. The question which people are going to be asking us is no longer whether our convictions are pure, whether we represent the right thing. The question is, are you in a position to solve this problem, are you cautious enough, can we trust you. This is the question to the governing party BÜNDNIS 90/DIE GRÜNEN."

die sind ook voor oorlog!!! en geloofen dat er een UN mandat ist!!
