Press Statement of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines, 16 September 2001 NDFP Condoles with Families of Victims But Criticizes U.S. Government Reprisal Preparations
The National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) condoles with the grieving families of the thousands of innocent victims of the terrorist attack in the U.S.A. last Tuesday, including the Filipinos and Filipino-Americans who died. The NDFP condemns such acts that cause death and injury to civilians, and in this case, these acts have resulted in a terrible carnage.
While sympathizing with the grieving American people, we however express our strong disapproval of the U.S. Government's manipulation of the people's grief and sorrow to churn up anti-Muslim and anti-Arab sentiments. We likewise criticize the U.S. government's warlike preparations for massive retaliatory attacks that will constitute a terrorism of a worse kind the state terrorism of an imperialist hyperpower - that will cause far greater loss of innocent lives.
The United States Government should be reminded of the many acts of state terrorism it has launched against other nations and peoples. It caused the loss of hundreds of thousands of lives within seconds in the unnecessary dropping of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Its wars of aggression in Vietnam, Korea, and the Philippines, and its massive attacks on the former Yugoslavia, Iraq and other countries, caused the loss of millions of lives.
During this period of national mourning of the American people, it is an opportune time to deeply examine the policies of the U.S. Government towards oppressed and struggling peoples in the world and search out the reasons why such policies arouse so much opposition, resistance and even profound outrage against the U.S. government, its policy makers and its huge profit-making enterprises. Those policies which cause intolerable suffering and exploitation on other peoples must be changed, so that relations of justice and equity can prevail.
