Het gebouw was bezet uit protest tegen het politiegeweld tijdens de G8-top in Genua vorige maand, waarbij Carlo Giuliani om het leven kwam.

De politie ontruimde op basis van artikel 138, huisvredebreuk. Op basis van dat artikel zijn de activisten ook gearresteerd. De ontruiming vond plaats op verzoek van de Italiaanse autoriteiten. Dat was nodig omdat de operatie op Italiaans grondgebied gebeurde. De arrestanten moesten het pand worden uitgedragen, maar zij hebben zich verder niet verzet. Op het Rembrandtplein stond woensdagavond al langer een peloton ME paraat.

Rond half twaalf was de eerste serie arrestanten naar het bureau afgevoerd. Telkens als er een naar buiten werd gedragen, werd de politie onthaald op een fluitconcert. Medeactievoerders werden luidkeels toegejuicht.
