With the Genoa Social Forum For Democracy
Hundreds of thousands of people demonstrated peacefully in Genoa against the G8 summit and because another world should be possible. The existence of a big, pluralistic in cultures and references, movement has been proved: it opposes to the arrogance of capitalist globalisation and proposes an alternative.
The so-called "Black Bloc" is an enemy of this movement from any point of view and any attempt of creating connections with the GSF is false and slanderous. On the contrary, the responsibilities of the Italian authorities who were not able or did not want to act and isolate violent groups, and defend the city and demonstrators: they made indiscriminate repressions and caused a real suspension of the state of law. Weapons have been used and a young man has been killed: this has not occurred since twenty years.
We express our condolence and our grief to his family.
The night blitz at the GSF seat represented a very grave and anti-constitutional fact against the representatives of the movement, democratic press, MPs, lawyers, who were not allowed to check the methods of the military operation. Such things cannot happen in a democratic country!
We must inquire all responsibilities but it is absolutely evident that there are very serious political responsibilities and of the public order ruling: for this reason we ask for the resignation of the Minister of the Interior, of the Chief of the Police, and of the Commander of the Italian Carabineer Force.
Let's mobilise to defend constitutional freedoms: Communist Refoundation will take part in any mobilisation, as proposed by the Genoa Social Forum to defend democracy!
