POLICE ATTACK AT IMC-GENOA AND RADIO GAP AND GSF(Eng-NL)
by Joeri Sunday July 22, 2001 at 12:53 AM

There just came in info about police attacking imc-genoa, radio gap and gsf. There's not a lot of info yet, only over imc-chatbox

Over imc-chat, info came in that Police invaded the imc-genoa building, people getting beaten, and arrested, computers smashed and other materials stolen.
There are several people injured, getting carried away ,...
tear gas used, ambulance carrying away people

Phone call from Genova
by red kitty Sunday July 22, 2001 at 01:18 AM

Got phone call from Han, indymedia.be, at 12:20. He was outside the center, describing it surrounded by massive police forces, helicopter and armoured water canon vehicles.
According to several testimonies published on IMCs, police is searching for the prooves that there were policeman in the Blac Blocks, taking away video tapes showing it.
Inside the Genova Social Forum are also lawyers and medical teams.

Situation very confusing (eng/nl)
by Joeri Sunday July 22, 2001 at 01:20 AM

Via imc-chat, and radio gap back online, news is coming in about the attack; but info very confusing
the reason of attack should be weapons, drugs and a policeman knifed, but are probably just lies, altough nobody knows for sure.
A gsf spokesperson is also beaten, among others
nobody knows if police had a permission to go into the building from a judge or not

confiscating material
by Joeri Sunday July 22, 2001 at 01:37 AM

Police is looking thru material, probably searching for prove of the infiltration of police in black block

there was also news that people should ve died during this attack, but it's probably NOT true

radio gap reports
by Joeri Sunday July 22, 2001 at 01:47 AM

the police using fascist methods forced people to lie down on the ground, then kicked their bodies and hurt them with sticks.
computers were crashed and floppies/CDs were stolen, many injured persons.
all this is horrible.
all this gotta stop.
hasta siempre

looking for drugs
by joeri Sunday July 22, 2001 at 02:20 AM

police now officially says they were looking for drugs; that's why they smashed computers, isn't it?
There were horrible things happened in the school (where imc, gsf are), everything is broken, blood everywhere,
In the school, there was a building site, so stones everywhere, and another reason for the police to blame protesters
There have been carried out several blackbags. There was lots of rumors these were bodybags, but it is confirmed that the blackbags contained stones, and not human bodies.

No computer were smashed But the police entered the building and search it. All the indymedia crew had to put their hand on the wall and then police asked them (us) to sit down while they were searching the rooms. They took gaz mask, tools, mini discs, maybe a video camera... But most of the material is safe. Then they told us that there were a kind of diplomatic protection for foreigners-journalists and they left the building.
The building in front of the GSF which host Indymedia was attacked by the police. Near forty people were injured (some of them as heavily that some italian television said that there were three dead people -sure that some of them doesn t look good at all-).
Then a lot of people were arrested as a lot of people were shouting at policemen.
A lot of journalists were there and most of them had to confront policemen.
Every body is shocked and the situation is still very confused.

Check all the Indymedia Sites !!!! Bad thing has just happened.

timeline from genoa (about tonight) (eng)
by posted by joeri Sunday July 22, 2001 at 03:23 AM

2.50: At least one of the people arrested at the cafe/pizzaria at via trento in the evening is free, but under heavy shock - during the arrest, he's been heavily beaten up by the police.
~02.30: The police withdraws, people can enter the empty school, they find blood spread all over in most of the rooms; It's quite obvious: the mission was to beat as many people as possible to or at least near dead.
~01.00: A lot of ambulances show up near the school, medics run inside the building about one hour after the police has entered the building. During the next one hour, people are constantly carried out by medics, some of them showing no reaction at all. Many of them are still in their sleeping-bag. Some persons are also carried out by policemen, not on stretchers but put on open sleepingbags - secured by a huge crowd of carabineri in riotgear trying to prevent the number of cameras being able to document the state of the person. They don't succeed, it's more than obvious that this person is dead. An estimated number of 25 persons are at least heavily injured. Those who can walk are put in prisonvans;
00.02: More riot police, civil and uniformed, most of them carabineri obviously entered the school opposite the IMC, provided by the GSF for protesters. Although all people inside the building were either sleeping or immediately standing hands up along the walls, the police started to charge them with extreme brutality;
00.02: Most of the carabineri entered the school opposite of the IMC. The next half hour remains unclear at theat moment;
00.02: Civil riot police with sticks and helmets, some mummed, violently entered the IMC building, raid the building and steal some cameras, footage, etc.; Suddenly, after about an hour, a woman shows up, shows her ID to the police and asks them to leave. The police does so, but without returning any of the stolen things, of course;
21.30: Three arbitrary arrests in a cafe/pizzaria at via trento, 2 minutes from IMC; at least one person was obviously arrested because the police discovered a wound resulting from a grenade shot by police at his head;
21.20: 2 policecars slowly passing by in front of the IMC where a crowd of people was standing, people start to shout "bastardi". It's not confirmed that some people also threw things after the cars;
