Police fired tear gas and used batons on Tuesday when rock-throwing students attacked the office of a former ruling party during a day of demonstrations by supporters and opponents of Indonesia's embattled head of state.

Un manifestant indonésien est tiré par les cheveux par la police en face du bureau du parti Golkar à Jakarta, ce mardi 13 mars, 2001. La police a fait usage de gaz lacrymogènes et de matraques quand les étudiants ont attaqué un bureau du parti à coup de lancer de pierres.

L'Indonésie connait actuellement de nombreux remous, la situatin politique et économique est au plus bas. Il souhaite que le président Wahid quitte le pouvoir. Ce mardi, ils étaient prêts de 2000 étudiants à manifester dans les rues.

A cette démonstration populaire, le générale Endriarto Sutarto, chef de l'armée, a déclaré que "la force doit sauver la nation"...
