World Economic Forum Under Fire Again

The World Economic Fourm meeting in Cancun Mexico was meet by demonstrations once again. From the S11 protests in Austrialia, to the ski town of Davos and now Cancun, every where that the WEF has tried to meet, they have incountered intense protest.

The World Economic Fourm meeting in Cancun Mexico was meet by demonstrations once again. From the S11 protests in Austrialia, to the ski town of Davos and now Cancun, every where that the WEF has tried to meet, they have incountered intense protest.

Buses carrying the protesters to Cancun were stopped at a checkpoint; some were held for five hours and their belongings thoroughly searched. One of the buses was traveling alone and the police confiscated everything from banners, paints, and masks for the artistic carnival to tires and helmets to be used as protection against police brutality, to the traveler's food and clothing.

Until shortly before 4 o clock the demonstrations had expereinced little confrontation by the police. A main road onto the hotel strip where the WEF was meeting very effectively blockaded by protestors. When locals started mixing with the protesters the police heavily started laying into the surprised crowds taking 10 to 20 (maybe even more) prisoners, firing gas and beating people who were lying on the ground covered in blood.
