Persecution 5 Israeli refusniks continues
by The Refusers Parents (copy paste by Matti) Tuesday, Jul. 13, 2004 at 9:09 AM

The 5 Israeli COs were sentenced to one year in jail in addition to the one year they had already been confined in various military jails and bases.

The persecution of the 5 Israeli COs (refusniks) continues.....

The 5 Israeli COs, Adam Maor, Matan Kaminer, Haggai Matar, Shimri Zameret and Noam Bahat were
sentenced to one year in jail in addition to the one year they had already been confined in
various military jails and bases.

The Military Prosecutor's representatives at the proceedings of the Parole Committee (6/7/04)
opposed the common 1/3rd reduction in sentence in spite of the high evaluation of the COs which
were given to the committee by the civilian prison staff.

The Prosecution objects to reductions until the COs express "regret" for their stand. Furthermore
the Prosecution's representative Captain Erez Gurion said specifically that when they complete
their sentences they will be ordered AGAIN to enlist. This threat is the implementation of the
declared policy of the Military Prosecution as put by Captain Kosterlitz when he stated (at the
Court Martial) "if they do not serve out of love they will serve out of fear".

The demand that the COs retract their beleifs in order to escape repeated sentencing is not just a
punishment but an attempt to break their spirit. This would be another glorious military victory
that must end with the total defeat of the body and spirit of the "enemy".

The Military Prosecution's representatives are expressing "their master's voice" - the Military
Attorney General - General Finkelstein who has turned the war against the COs into a personal
vendetta. To Finkelstein conscientious objection is worse than murder, violence and plundering.

We need your help. We are convinced that a public call to the Attorney General will create a
pressure that will eventually put an end to this persecution.

We ask you to send to Government's Attorney General Meni Mazuz (at the fax number shown below)
stating your objection to the policy of the Military Prosecution and demanding the immediate
release of the COs. A sample letter can be downloaded from:

The Attorney General Mazuz's fax number is +972-2-6274481.
His mail address is: 29 Salah A-Din Street - Jerusalem 91010 - ISRAEL

We thank you for your efforts and support.
