FWF organises a benefit for the list MARIA, Movement for Action, Resistance and an Independent Alternative. Because her voice is ours.

The elections are less than three weeks away. This time around there is a very peculiar list running in the Brussels area, Halle, Vilvoorde and Leuven, MARIA, Movement for Action, Resistance and an Independent Alternative.
Maria is a trade union rep that used to work for Sabena. She’s been cleaning airplanes for seventeen years now. She was very active during the struggle to prevent bankruptcy. Because of that she had the idea of running for office during these elections, for the chamber of representatives, she is fed up with those politicians that do a lousy job managing public enterprise, or even organise their bankruptcy, fed up with those politicians that say no to war but allow american troops to pass through Belgium.

That is why she wants to run for office, so she can expose what is going on in there and represent the excludes, those who are never heard. The list has a lot of former Sabena workers, but also trade unionists from other sectors, young people that are part of the anti-war movement, artists, someone from indymedia… Tis is her website, it’s not very pretty but it’s the content that is important http://web.wanadoo.be/liste-maria-lijst/

FWF has decided to support this list, in our own way, organising a benefit party two days before the elections so we could make a little money. Maria only has her salary and the money she could collect from the people around her for her campaign, that is very little compared to the millions spent by the traditional party’s. but also to break through the wall of silence that the corporate media have build around this initiative. We hope to promote this project among young people, like us, who often don’t know who to vote for, who hesitate between the traditional party’s that are so much alike. Because we want someone in parliament that can really represent us. Represent us and other voice-less people in our society, because her voice is ours.
