"American B-52 bombers took off from western England on Friday - the first to leave since the start of the war in Iraq. An eyewitness saw eight B52s leave the Fairford airbase in Gloucestershire shortly after 1000 GMT. "
"Another six stayed on the tarmac while a Black Hawk helicopter hovered above the base. The Ministry of Defense declined to say whether the planes were destined for the Gulf."
"The planes appeared to be carrying missiles under their wings. On Thursday, bombs were wheeled out onto the tarmac and placed by the planes, apparently in preparation for loading."
