AEL Statement// THE WAR STARTED, THE RESISTANCE STARTED

The War against Iraq has started and the time of speculation and anticipation is over. This war is clearly a war of aggression that has no legitimacy whatsoever. It is not about Saddam Hussein and his regime; it is not about dictatorship and democracy. It is a war for hegemony, oil and serving the aims of Zionists, and all of that in a clear anti Islamic international context. By launching this war the US is aggressing not only the Iraqi people but all Arabs, Muslims and peace loving people all over the world. Therefore the enemy is now clear, it is American imperialism. This enemy will not limit itself to this war but is preparing a long term onslaught on every country and every people refusing to bow their head to its domination. The Arab people today is standing on the first line of defence against American-Zionist aggression and will have to take the fall for the rest of the world. The least that the rest of the world can do is to show solidarity and give support to the resistance against the invasion. This resistance is not only the resistance of the regular army of Iraq , but also that of the people of Iraq against a possible American occupation. It is also the resistance of the Palestinian people against the continuous Zionist occupation and colonisation of Palestine . Sharon is awaiting the chaos that Bush will generate to try to execute his plans for ethnic cleansing and mass-murder against the Palestinian people. It is imperative to keep one eye on Iraq and another eye on Palestine in these hard times. This war will lead to the defeat of the aggressor, maybe not in the first weeks or months when the technological superiority of the Americans will create the impression that the war is over with the end of a regime, but the end of a regime is not the end of a people and the Americans will go out of Arab Land defeated and humiliated by the popular resistance that will rise against their occupation and by the will of the all mighty Allah. Arabs and Muslims in Europe should take their responsibility and mobilise all their resources to show their solidarity with the Arab people in Iraq and Palestine . We should organise demonstrations and protests, we should organise debates and conferences to explain the dimensions of this war and we should try to resist this war from wherever we are and by all the means we have. This is now the absolute priority and it is superior to any other struggle or agenda. The Arab European League is organising activities in all the countries where it is active, and AEL members should take initiatives within this framework all over the world. Consult your local AEL web-site for more information or contact your local branch. If no activities are organised in your city or town start organising one right now. The protest action in Europe has three goals:

-To force European governments into taking anti-war measures on all levels.

-To mobilise the public opinion and especially our Arab-Islamic community and make it aware of the reasons and implications of this war and how it can play a role against it.

-To help the moral of our people in Palestine and Iraq .

We are aware nevertheless that the real difference will be made by the resistance on the ground and therefore the important message of all our actions should be: support the resistance in Palestine and Iraq .
