A recent track on "Botanica del Jibaro" independent label is beginning to be a third world anthem against US imperialism and corporate-globalization.
The follow-up to their debut Botanica del Jibaro release, Suffer Great Nation. Plex, Seth P. Brundel and Dr. Faustus of Algorithm once again present the project known as Void. This time around the 3-man crew aurally attack two fronts, one global, the other personal relationships. The title track "El Grito" (meaning "the scream/shout" in Spanish) has become a third world anthem against US imperialism and corporate-globalization to all that hear it. The song was originally created for an anti-bombing in Vieques cd compilation entitled "Mancha de Platano", released on Beta Bodega and Etihad. Dr. Faustus opens in defense of native American people dropping lines like "we are not savage, we verbalize in a different language, our lands ravished, us in poverty, them living lavish, why does it continue, indigenous people considered below average?" Then in steps Seth P. Brundel to finish the job with the sick Dominican flow. A true classic and productive use of the art of hip hop, this time being used as a vehicle for political protest. All production on this side by Seth P. Brundel, the beats are rugged, uplifting and cause fists to wave in the air. The flip side puts Plex in control of production as the group takes a darker turn to venture into the realm of relationships between those that have dreams and their families who offer them false support as they ultimately expect them to fail and never to really reach their goals. Verses dropped again together by Seth P. Brundel and Dr. Faustus with the powerful production skills of Plex (who has blessed Slug, El-P and CYNE all on recent releases with his remixes and who did much of the production on the current Algorithm release "War at 120/80" out on Counterflow). Once again designed by La Mano Fria from Beta Bodega Coalition, limited run of highly collectable custom silk-screened jackets and a copy of Jibaro Times.
El Grito
(VERSE I/Dr.Faustus)
Forced to conform to the will of the oppressors/ This shiny gold you sought never really impressed us/ We the savage defend against civilized aggressors/ The children of the lesser/ Broken spirits mend to oppose foreign transgressors/ Native in loincloth baring gifts taken as obscene gesture/ Spanish conquest comes from emaciated pale skin creeps/ Shallow men void of love is the company sin keeps/ Throughout the years we've come to overstand political science/ Sovereignty attained through Boriqua-Cuban alliance/ Flags wave similar to remind us of defiance/ Y'all never saw it comin'/ island nations/ becomin'/ giants/ Globalization/ non-compliance/ Genocide/ to indian tribes/ Siboney/ Taino, Hatuey/ Mayans/ Los tiraflecha got arrows flyin'/ God you must hear my cries/ This slain son of yours make ‘em thirst for our heathen demise/ Convince them Shaman also wise/ Even if we decide/ to hide/ our hides/ under animal hides/ we are not savage/ we verbalize/ in a different language/ Our land's ravished/ Us in poverty, them living lavish/ Why does it continue? Indigenous people considered below average/
Chorus
The dominance of a people powered by the sun/ chased and hunted down 'til the land is overrun/ action added to the adage, "We shall overcome"/ Spear must pierce flesh quicker than soldier's gun/ RELAX, RELATE, RELEASE, SCREAM/ Attack! debase the beast's dream/ His nightmare filled with guerrilla rebels/ death is a blessing given to these devils/
