Thousands are expected to take to the streets of Dublin tomorrow to protest against the governments cuts. The protests will coincide with the announcement of the governments budget.
It is expected that the budget will contain massive cuts. In the past few months this government have abolished grants for housing, cut educational spending, increased charges for waste collection and for transport. They have also cut back on spending in health and massivly increased fees for university. It is also expected that the government will freeze promised wage increases for public sector workers.
The main march has been organised by the Socialist Party (CWI - LSP/MAS in Belgium), it has the backing of many, left wing TDs (MPs), trade union activists and community groups.
Another march has been organised by the national students union (USI). Today 11 students occupied the Department of Finance building for 3 hours.
The honeymoon that this government had after its reelection in May has been very short lived. Tomorrow will only be a taste of what is to come. Over the next period workers conditions will be further attacked and more and more will move into struggle agianst this right wing government.
