The SIS II (Schengen Information System second version) will also set alerts on activists in order to block the to assist to legal and authorised demonstrations
The EC will launch a new version of its "security database", and will make it available to all police services through the EU.
Among other deliquents, the people accused by the police of being "suspected" protestors will be included in the database, and will be prevented from entering a country where a demonstration should happen.
As usual, the basic idea is a good one: to avoid Black Blox members to transform a peacfull demonstration in a riot. This can be understood.
The problem is:
1/ How do you know your name is in the database, and that you will not be able to go where you want?
2/ Who will enter the names in the database, and what evidences are needed?
3/ If your name is falsely entered, what can you do?
The answers are easy:
1/ You don't know. You'll have to be blocked at an internal EU border to know.
2/ The police.. It means that no evidence is needed. If you are in a train with 300 other people, and that there is a problem, you could be on the database because the cop will not bother to try to know who is responsible for the problem.
3/ Fight, during probably years. And even if you win, you don't know if your name has not been transmitted to other databases throughout Europe (or throughout the world, for that matter). For an example of this, read
http://www.statewatch.org/news/2001/nov/19Bsis.htm
There should be a petition against this misuse of a criminal database against peacufull people, whose only crime is being against the globalisation as we see it now.
If I reveive enough mails requesting such a petition to be set up, I'll put it on petitiononline.com, and send the URL on the different Indy servers.
