Police raid against German students

Since Monday the 10th of December students and pupils in the European Union are campaigning against the GATS-treaty and the privatisation of education. Here a short overview of the first actions.

Since tuesday december the 11th students of the university FU Berlin (Germany) are on strike and occupied a university building. Last night at 22.00h the director (rektor) of the university called the police to evict the building. We protest against the eviction and criminalisation of student-activists.

In the city of Halle (Germany) students started a strike and also occupied university-buildings. They are still inside the buildings.

In the city of Bochum (Germany) students are still blocking the entrance of the university and about 300 - 400 pupils marched through the city of Bochum yesterday to demand a stop of the privatisation of schools and universities.

In the French speaking part of the university of Brussels (Belgium) students are on strike as well. They organise a lot of extraordinary lessons about globalisation, the EU etc.

In France there was an action in Montpellier, students changed the names of university-buildings. They gave them names like "Bill Gates building", "Nike university" etc.

In the Netherlands students from the university of Utrecht put other messages on billboards and on other advertising objects. The messages where about GATS and against education and commerce.

In 18 more German cities actions will take place in the coming days. In Belgium students call for a strike on December 3th and 14th and in Spain students call for a strike at december the 12th. In sweden, Italy, France, Denmark, Switzerland, Austria, Netherlands more actions are planned.
