No Need to Go to Laeken : Decisions are being taken elsewhere. At 7:45 AM on Wednesday Dec.12 half a dozen of eco-activist entered (without ringing the doorbell) the Headquarters of CEFIC, the European Federation of Chemical Industries next to the Brussels Metro-station Demey in the business-favella of Auderghem. The group locked itself in with iron pipes and barricaded doors. Some 40 activists stayed outside to support the action, on the tones of an eco-samba-band, and distribute information to bypassers.

According to Jaap Krater, activist from the Netherlands, CEFIC not only represents the main environment-agressors in Europe, it is also an important symbol of the madding corporate influence on European politics. "With our action we definitely stopped one of the most decisive power-centra in Brussels of functioning", Krater explains.
CEFIC was created in 1972 and consists of chemical enterprises, national and international bosses-federations.On its website CEFIC says that it offers services to its members to help them maximalize profits ! Members produce some 30% of the worlds chemicals and environmental headachezs that are linked with these chemicals.
