German Democratic Socialists Stress No to Military Operation
==========================================

BERLIN, October 7 (Xinhua) --

The German Democratic Socialist
Party (PDS)
reiterated Sunday its opposition to military action as
reaction to the September 11 attacks against the United States.
The PDS is the only German political party that has objected
military strikes as means of retaliation.

On Sunday's party conference in the eastern city of Dresden,
the PDS released a declaration of "peace appeal" and a leading
motion to make clear its stance.

The responsible of the terrorist attacks in US must be found
out and sentenced, said the motion endorsed by most deputies of
the conference.

The attacks were attacks against civilization, the motion added.
"But war should not be the answer to terrorism," said the
motion, "The fight against terrorism can be won while war against
it would never."

The PDS demanded the German government not to join in the
preparations for war.

Instead, the government should use its good relationship with
the United States to hold the Bush administration back from a war,
according to the proposal.

The mankind is being threatened both by the September 11
attacks and possible military retaliatory strikes by the U.S. and
its allies, said the motion.

PDS president Gabi Zimmer rejected military measures to fight
back in her address Sunday, saying "They could lead to escalation
of violence."
